INSURANCE

Members are covered by the RFU Compulsory Club Playing insurance scheme to the following levels:-

(full details can be obtained from the Federation Treasurer.)

In addition, the Federation has purchased cover (one unit) for Death by Natural Causes for referees. The benefit for this is £10,000. Referees can arrange cover for Loss of Earnings on an individual basis. This does not apply to referees over the age of 60.

Referees over the age of 50 are advised to have an annual medical via their GP to establish their physical fitness to referee.

PUBLIC LIABILITY

If referees carry out their duties in a normal manner and to the best of their ability, no problems should arise. In the event of litigation members are covered for negligence cases. Public Liability Insurance does not cover games played using rules no longer approved. Committee Members and Officers of Referees Societies receive both Public Liability Insurance and Direcctors and Officers Liability Insurance.

Referees must apply the particular rules of play appropriate to each section of the game.

Referees should only accept authorised appointments.

Failure to inform a Society Officer of the acceptance of a fixture directly from a Club, School or University may negate your Federation insurance cover.
